This is some of the work I did on the new furniture for Raft: The Renovation Update.
The idea for the update was to add new furniture of a higher tier than what we already had. The old furniture was very rickety, put together from pieces of plastic and wood. We wanted to new furniture to look a lot more refined and built with more intentionality, but it still had to look home made. We also wanted it to be primarily wood, so we had a lot of paintable surfaces, to make use of our expanded painting system for the update.
I worked out a style that was very DIY carpentry inspired.
I put together some concepts and a style guide for the other 3D artists to make sure we kept the look consistent across all furniture.
Concept art, models and textures were made by me.
The wood grain pattern was made by Peter Bosson:
